Lancaster Evening Post: Pest controllers had to be called in fumigate a filthy house in Leyland – after tenants used a bedroom as a horse stable.
A landlord who evicted a family from the house for not paying rent was amazed to find a pony had been living in an upstairs room.
The house was left covered in horse muck and dog mess and swarming with flies after the tenants, thought to be travellers, moved out, taking the pony with them.
Pest controller Ian McGeorge, 56, had to spend an hour fumigating the property last week to get rid of the insects.
He said: “It was a two-up two-down type place with only a small garden.
“They must have had nowhere to keep the pony so they kept it upstairs.”
Self-employed Ian said it was the first time he had come across a horse being kept indoors in his 15 years as a pest controller.
